Danielle Haylor, of Squirrel Close, Langley Green, sent the drugs to her boyfriend Timothy Cole, who was in Lewes Prison serving time for armed robbery.
The beauty therapist will now have to leave her eight-year-old son in the care of her sister after she was sent to prison.
Haylor, 31, appeared at Hove Crown Court today (Thursday).
Prosecuting, Walton Hornsby said: "The case involves the concealing of 2.3 grams of heroin which was in the spine of a book which Miss Haylor sent to her boyfriend while he was in custody.
"The drugs had a street value of around £600, of course the value in prison is considerably greater.
"She is the one responsible for putting the drugs into the book, putting it in an envelope and sending it into the prison."
Mitigating, Sherry Nabijoll said: "It seems Miss Haylor does have a lack of judgement when it comes to relationships.
"She was in a horrendously abusive relationship with her son's father for around eight years before she met Mr Cole.
"There was violence and even attempted murder, however she managed to get herself out of the relationship."
The court then heard how Haylor met Cole shortly after the break-up and the two had began a relationship.
It was said the couple had gone to Spain together to try and resolve Cole's drug problem, however it did not work.
Mrs Nabijoll said: "When he was in prison, the pressure he (Cole) was putting on Miss Haylor was immense.
"He was saying remember how ill I was when I tried coming off it, please help me. This pressure just ended with a lack of judgement."
Haylor pleaded guilty one count of attempting to supply a serving offender with 3.2 grams of heroin at a hearing last month.
Sentencing her to 18 months in prison at Thursday's hearing, Judge Anthony Niblett said:
"I have considered many factors when sentencing you. These being that you are 31-years-old and have an eight-year-old son.
"However you upheld your innocence and previously entered a not guilty plea and let the case go to trial.
"On October 23 you saw sense after you experienced a period of acute anxiety and I will give you credit for that.
"I think you have shown great remorse and I will also give both you and your sister credit for not putting me in a difficult position in regard to putting your son in the care of the local authority."
Cole was jailed in June 2007 after he took part in an armed robbery at a Horsham jewellers, where £50,000 worth of diamond rings were stolen.
