Crawley Town full-back suspended for three matches

SAM Rents has been banned for three matches by the Football Association following his sending off against Cambridge United last Saturday.

The Crawley Town full-back was shown a straight red card for a bad challenge on United's Jon Challinor, a tackle that left the midfielder needing five minutes of treatment on the pitch before he was stretchered off.

Crawley boss Steve Evans admitted the tackle was bad but pointed out that it was out of character for his player.

"I thought Sam Rents was outstanding Saturday but we cannot condone something like that," said Evans. "I have to say though, it is unlike him."

Rents has been a regular at left-back this season having signed for the Reds after his release from Brighton & Hove Albion.

But he will now miss tomorrow night's Blue Square Premier game at home to Ebbsfleet, Sunday's trip to York City and the following weekend's match at Northwich Victoria as he serves his suspension.

Challinor meanwhile is said to have a "puncture-type wound caused by a stud and extensive bruising to the top of his shin" following the tackle, according to Cambridge physio Greg Reid.
