Sussex County League preview: Three Bridges denied midweek victory

Thursday, November 20, 2008, 11:48

Three Bridges were denied victory on Tuesday night as struggling East Grinstead Town snatched a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw in Sussex County League division one.

Bridges had led since the 47th minute, when Collier allowed a hopeful punt forward by Bobby Buckingham to bounce over his head. Dean Wright scrambled the ball into an empty net.

But East Grinstead responded and could have equalised twice when Buckingham had to clear Steve Major's effort off the line and then Liam Bull mis-kicked with only Bridges goalkeeper Mark Fox to beat after Major had set him up.

But with a minute of normal time remaining, Bridges finally conceded as Simon Funnell's shot deflected off Tyler Kay on its way past Fox.

Bridges stay second in the league but are now level on points with leaders Ringmer, although the Crawley side have played a game more. This Saturday (November 22), Bridges host Rye United in the John O'Hara Cup third round. Kick-off at Jubilee Field is at 3pm.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Oakwood host Horsham YMCA in Division One (3pm) while Crawley Down travel to Selsey for a Sussex RUR Charity Cup third round tie (3pm).

Ifield Edwards visit Little Common in Division Three (2pm), while Pease Pottage make the trip to Lindfield for a Mid Sussex Senior Cup third round match (1.30pm).
